Analysis options
Users can select specific Categories (from the standard hierarchy or custom hierarchy where available), Manufacturers, Brands and Retailers to analyse within the report. Users can also choose Attributes and Price Options from the additional options.
The default date range is one day. Please note, counts are calculated against the previous day. This means if a user selects the last one day, the analysis will query two days of data.
Once selections have been made and you have pressed 'Analyse', the platform will display a grid with the selected categories and will default to show price increases by category for all retailers.
The grid will display the Acuity Pricing hierarchy or the Custom Hierarchy where available and will default to display the highest level. Users can then click into each level to view the results for child levels.
The search function allows you to search the hierarchy, this is useful for large hierarchies.
Click on the filter options to change the information displayed in the grid. Users can view changes for an individual retailer, or they can view all retailers at once.
To view all changes for a specific retailer, select the retailer from the filter options and click 'Apply'.
The resulting grid will display all changes over the selected date range. This includes Price Increases/Decreases, Promotions Started/Ended, Assortment and Availability changes.
Click on the numbers in the grid to display the data over time in a chart. This chart shows the retailer’s availability changes over the last week for the Beers, Wines & Spirits category. These charts are useful to show trends over time.
When looking at all retailers, you can compare their counts by selecting/deselecting them from the legend.
Price Changes
When viewing Price Changes, you can display either Price Increases or Price Decreases in the grid using the Options filter.
Click on the values to display the data for that category level in chart form.
Click on the retailer names in the legend to include/exclude that retailer from the chart.
Please note, a delisted / not listed product does not have a price the day before it is relisted, therefore it would not be counted as a price change.
Promotional Changes
The analysis will display promotional changes as a count of promotions started or promotions ended.
If a product stays on promotion across two days but the promotion changes, this will count as promotion ended and promotion started.
For example, if a product is on a promotion for 20% off one day and the next it is on a promotion for Buy One Get One Free, this will be counted as promotion ended (for 20% off) and promotion started (for BOGOF) as they are two different promotions.
The chart will display for all retailers, click on the retailers’ names in the legend to add/remove them from the chart.
The charts are a useful indication of how retailers apply promotions over time.
Assortment Changes
The analysis will display listing changes as a count of changes for New Listings, Delistings or Relistings.
The chart above shows the count of Relistings in the Beers, Wines & Spirits category.
Assortment Changes charts and data can be used by retailers to assess their assortment strategy and timings compared with competitors.
Availability Changes
The analysis will display stock changes as a count of In Stock, Out of Stock or Unavailable.
Please note, Download and Preorder stock statuses are not considered in this analysis. Additionally, a delisted / not listed product has a stock status of null.
The example above shows the count of products that became Out of Stock over a week-long period.
The Availability Charts are useful to show changes in a particular stock status over time.
This allows retailers to spot any issues with their stock and address them to avoid an impact on sales in the future.
Export
Summary Tab
The Summary Tab on the export displays a topline overview of all the retailers and metrics. It includes all categories selected in the analysis and cumulative counts over the date range.
This summary is particularly useful when the analysis is scheduled daily.
Users can use this tab to see what has changed compared with the previous day and take any necessary action.
Retailer Tabs
These tabs give a breakdown of counts per category, per metric for each retailer.
Metric Tabs
These display raw product information, the count of changes during the analysis period, and a daily granularity breakdown of the relevant metric. These tabs can be used in tandem with the charts to see the products behind any trends.
The first day of the date range will show changes compared with the day before. Exports will, therefore, include the day before the selected date range as well.
Market Movement - Hints and Tips
Within the tool:
- Counts are of the number of changes, not products that have changed.
For example, if a single product came on promotion three times within the date range, the count of ‘promotions started’ for this one product would be three. Therefore, the counts displayed in the grid can be larger than the number of raw products.
