2.2 Promotional History

Learn how to use the Promotional History report on the Acuity Pricing platform.

The Promotional History report enables users to instantly analyse promotional trends within a category or market. Follow the steps below to learn how to use the report.

Promotional History report 

Users can utilise this tool in the platform tool to:

  • Analyse promotional trends to assist with promotion planning.
  • Negotiate promotions between retailer and manufacturer.
  • Understand how well promotional events conform to what was planned
    and agreed.
  • Evaluate sales performance by integrating with other data sets to see which promotions were most effective.
  • View which types of promotions are being used and when.

Report tabs

Most reports offer tabbed sections, which provide more in-depth results for a given query. Within the Promotional History Report there are Overview and History tabs that helps users to visualise data easily.

Overview Tab

The Overview Tab gives a topline summary of promotional changes within the selected date range.

Within the secondary-level tabs, the user is able to segment information by overall Mechanic Summary, Brands, Manufacturers and Retailers.

History Tab

The History Tab shows the number of promotions at each retailer during the selected date range.

Report Export

Clients use these exports to:

  • compare year-on-year trends
  • plan effective promotions
  • view a summary of competitors’ promotional activity

Exporting the Promotional Calendar

To export the Promotional Calendar, the user must first run the Promotional History Report set to their specified criteria and then click Save. Once saved, the user should then click Export to view the exporting options for their Promotional Calendar.

Calendar options

Acuity Pricing allows the Promotional Calendar to be exported in three different formats.

The Promotional Calendar export is only available within the Promotional History Report.

Standard Format

The standard format provides the user with a detailed export of all the promotional activity that has taken place on the user’s selection. Additional tabs within the export show promotional calendars with retailers across the top of the page.

Calendar Format

The calendar format allows the user to view all information as a timeline. This report groups products by volume or attribute.

Custom – Retailers as rows

The custom format displays promotional history for every product separately, with retailers grouped in the first column.

Promotional History – Hints and Tips


Within the tool:

  • If you work within a category that has large numbers of SKUs with different fragrances / flavours, you may want to pick a representational SKU from each brand to level the playing field in terms of range sizes.

For all the charts, choose the year-on-year option to see how promotions have changed since last year.

Within the Export:

  • When downloading the Calendar export, choose 'Compare Year on Year' to get an additional calendar under the current view showing how promotions have changed over time.

When downloading the Custom export, choose the option 'Retailers as Rows'.

Within the Custom export you can choose whether you see the data daily, weekly, or monthly.
